American Legion Riders

John J. Morris American Legion Post 62

Purpose

 

To participate in rides and other ceremonies which are in keeping with the aims and purposes of the American Legion. To promote motorcycle safety programs and to provide a social atmosphere for American Legion members who share the same interest. To use our association to promote and support programs of the American Legion.


 

By Laws

1.      Membership: There are two requirements for membership (You must meet both A & B).

A.     A current member of the American Legion, Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion.

B.     You must own a motorcycle of at least 350cc in size or be the Legal spouse of an owner who is an ALR Association member. 

C.     Annual membership dues shall be $10.00 per person (non-transferable/ non-refundable). Due by 31 January of every year starting in 2007.

D.     Life Membership Dues shall be $100.00 (non-transferable/ non-refundable).

E.      ALR Post 62, at their own discretion, may allow current riding members who cannot ride because of a medical condition or other circumstances, apply for Non-Riding Status. ALR Post 62 at their own discretion; may allow “Honorary” members.   These memberships are of a nature as to provide recognition to those who show strong support to the individual American legion Riders Chapter.  These supporting members must still meet the requirements of Section 1A and be current members of the American Legion, Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion.  Furthermore all articles of clothing that contain the American Legion Riders emblem should contain the words “I support” or “Supporter”.

3.      Elections

A.     Nominations of chapter officers will be held the FIRST TUESDAY in January annually. The election of chapter officers will be held the FIRST Tuesday of every February  annually.

B.     When two or more Chapters exist in a State (Department) the practices of that Department will prevail for the naming of state officers.  If the Department wishes to impose no practice, then State Officers will be named by a manner that is in agreement between the involved Chapters.

  

4.      Duties of Association Chapter Officers

A.     President:  Will serve as Chief Administrative Officer of the Association and will preside over all meetings.  He shall have general supervision over the affairs of the Association.  He shall perform such other duties as directed by the general membership.

B.     Vice President:  Will assume the duties of the President in his absence. Will assist the President in the performance of his duties when called on to do so by the President. Shall also be the “Membership Chairman” to conduct membership recruitment activities and maintain membership records at his or her post.

C.      Secretary:  To keep a full and correct record of all proceeding at the meetings.  Keep membership records as may be required by the general membership. The Secretary should also give detailed minutes at each regular meeting.

D.     Treasurer:  To have charge of all finances of the Association.  To have charge of disbursing funds as directed by the general membership. To give detailed financial reports at each regular meeting. Maintain a discretionary fund of $100.00 for emergencies and normal operations and provide receipts for expenditures.

E.      The Road Captain: Will be the logistics person in charge of organized runs of the Association.  He/she will assist in determining the dates, times, routes and meeting places for all taking part in a run activity.  He may, at his discretion, appoint assistant road captains or take any other measures he may feel necessary to help insure the safety of the group during a run. He/she shall conduct a safety briefing before each run and ensure waivers are available for guests, and at his/her discretion solicit emergency contact information of all who participate. Shall maintain the funds for runs and events as required.

F.      The Sergeant At Arms: Will maintain order and safety during chapter meetings, rides, and events. Will verify eligibility before meetings.

 

 

5.      Meetings

A.     Executive Board Meetings shall be held on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month @6:00PM. Executive Board members shall include at least 1/2 of all officers for a quorum.

B.     General Membership Meetings shall be held at the FIRST TUESDAY of every month @7:00PM. Seven members will constitute a quorum.

C.     A pledge of Allegiance to the United States will be recited at the beginning of all meetings.

D.     A prayer may be offered by the Chaplin at the close of all meetings.

 

6.      Finances

A.     Finances of each Association Chapter will be from Association membership dues or such other sources, as approved by the membership.

 

7.      Expulsion

A.     Any member may be expelled or suspended from the Association by a majority vote of the general membership at a regular Chapter meeting.

 

8.      Charter Membership

A.     Our Charter has been granted by John J. Morris American Legion Post 62, effective 01 November 2005.

B.     Charter Members will be allowed to wear patches or rockers denoting charter membership.

  

9.      Residency

A.     Our Chapter is located in and part of John J. Morris American Legion Post 62.

 

10.  Governing Rules

A.     Our Chapter follows the rules and guidelines prescribed by John J. Morris American Legion Post 62 and all rules and guidelines adhered to by this post.

11.   Disbursement of Funds

A.     Disbursement of funds will be only those authorized at any regular meeting of the Chapter.  Each Chapter will be a non-profit organization and may only disburse funds in a manner that is in keeping with all local, state and national laws regarding non-profit organizations.

12.  Insignia

A.     ALR62 members shall have the choice of wearing patches already available through the American Legion Emblem sales, or any patch that has been approved for design by the general membership. All insignia must be in good taste and project a positive image of the American Legion.   

13.  Order

A.     All meetings will be conducted under “Roberts Rules of Order”.
